Universal Tracker

Hi All

My friend started a new project for the Android platform: the universal tracker called "Unit".

Cited his definition:

Unit is a mobile application for tracking lists of owned, loaned and borrowed assets (such as books, CDs, DVDs or board games) using Android mobile platform.
Here's a demo screenshot:

He's currently looking for help developing the application, so if you like this, join him!!

Thanks :-)

Google drop

It was not expected.

For the last ~3 months I was undergoing interviews with Google to fill a position there. After the first 2 I got a very positive feedback, and went to another 2.

But yesterday I got a call that they've decided not to continue with me anymore.

This sucks.

No More Google Video! Long Live Google Video!

Google Video, the web-based service that provided almost the same functions as the popular YouTube, is not an online video sharing solution anymore. The parent company Google upgraded the product and made it a search technology that allows users to find clips on the entire Internet. At this time, the official page of the service is exactly the same.
Thats cool, now I'll be able to find any video I want online. Now, if only someone would remove DRM from things I really want...

The Google Product That Could Kill Microsoft

Office isn't the only Microsoft hegemony that Google Gears could help destroy. One of the defining differences between Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux is the application lineup. That's given the crew in Redmond, Wash., tremendous power. But technologies like Gears render the operating system irrelevant.
While I've tried and used Gears for Google Reader, I am not yet convinced. Yes, it allows you to enjoy the service offline. But why would this "kill" Microsoft? It seems that many have an odd idea about how things work. Microsoft has its major revenue from business venues, such as major installations of Windows and Office, but also servers, development environments, etc. There's no way a business like Microsoft will "die". It would take much more time and effort than simple Gears platform.

How about XBOX? How about mobile? There are many issues that lie around the issue.

Besides, in couple of years, we all will be online at all times. So what is this "offline" feature good for?

Half the electricity in a PC is wasted according to Intel, Google

Roughly 50 percent of the power delivered from a wall socket to a PC never actually performs any work, according to Urs Hölzle, Google fellow and senior vice president of operations. Half the energy gets converted to heat or is dissipated in the AC-to-DC conversion. Around 30 percent of the power delivered to the average server is also lost.

That's why I like small efficient devices. Give me device which consumes 2W of energy total, and which is able to connect to network and do all sorts of cool stuff. Much more efficient than a full blown computer!

Google's PowerPoint viewer goes live

Gmail users who get Microsoft PowerPoint attachments in their in-boxes can now view them without having PowerPoint installed on their machines. Google appears to have flipped the switch to allow this feature as of last night. We originally reported on this last month, although at that time it appeared that only a handful of accounts had access.

I've tried this feature with couple of PowerPoint attachments including one in Hebrew, and I have to admit - it works pretty well.

Highly recommended.
